Friday 6 March saw four boys from the Ormiston College Junior and Middle School Chess Club attend the first of two Friday nights of fierce chess at Somerville House. After three hours of chess on the first night our team comprising of Nathan Lycho, Brayden Ling, Ethan Strawbridge and Jack James finished eleventh overall. The boys went into Friday 18 March with vigour and completed some stellar rounds but were up against some very strong teams made up of senior students. Out of 27 schools Ormiston finished fifteenth. This is a very impressive result as it is the first time Ormiston Middle School students have been able to represent their school in a competition. The boys gained a lot of experience and are determined to improve in the Term 2 competition. I would like to thank the boys for representing our school so proudly and the families for giving up their Friday nights to support our school.
