The Sports Awards Evening was held on Wednesday 1 November. The exciting evening ran very smoothly, providing everyone involved with lots of fun and entertainment. Jade North, two-time Olympian (2004, 2008) and current Brisbane Roar player, was the special guest and everyone in the audience would have taken some type of message from him. The rawness in which he talked about his struggles, the resilience he has shown and his key to success – hard work – was refreshing and inspiring. We were most fortunate to have him attend the awards evening.

A band, consisting of Marcus Van Wessem, Matthew Garnett, Kyle Bryant, Thomas Whyte and, professional musician, Darran Muller was simply outstanding. The quality of music produced while video presentations were displayed was certainly a highlight of the evening.

The MVPs, Premiership and Champion Teams as well as other special awards were presented earlier in the evening. The announcement and presentation of Major Awards concluded the evening and the winners were:

Fifteeners Award – Tanner Elliott

Redback Spirit Award – Teneka Ash (girl) and Tanner Elliott (boy)

Most Improved Team – Seconds Touch Football

Champion Team – Year 9 Boys Basketball

Most Improved Sport – Girls Tennis

Most Successful Sport – Boys Tennis

Coach of the Year – Matthew O’Neill

Sportswoman of the Year – Teneka Ash

Sportsman of the Year – Tanner Elliott

A big thank-you is extended to all the students and teachers who assisted in the smooth running of the evening, especially Mrs Foort.

The Sports Awards Evening formally concluded the 2017 sporting calendar. I look forward to another fun, challenging and competitive year of sport in 2018.
