Revised Fee Discount Structure with effect from 2027/2028
Ormiston College is committed to providing clarity and fairness in our fee structure. To ensure stability for current students, existing discounts will be grandfathered.
Key updates include:
- Alumni Discounts: Removed for new students from 2028, with current students grandfathered until 2032.
- Multiple Discounts: From 2028 onwards, all new students will be limited to one discount with the exception of the discount associated with annual payment of fees, with current students grandfathered until 2032.
- Scholarship Discounts: Students awarded scholarship for 2027 and beyond will not be entitled to receive multiple discounts. Current scholarship recipients’ discounts will be grandfathered until 2032.
These changes aim to maintain transparency and sustainability while respecting commitments made to existing families.
What is ‘Grandfathering’?
Grandfathering is a term used in policy and business to describe keeping existing benefits, rights, or conditions for current participants even after new rules or changes are introduced. It’s a way to honour previous agreements and avoid disruptions for families who made decisions based on the previous policies.
Here’s how it works in the context of Ormiston College’s fee discount policy:
- Current Students: If you already have a discount (e.g. alumni, sibling), you keep it under the original terms for as long as specified, even if the policy changes for new students.
- New Students: They will follow the updated rules and won’t receive the old discounts.
- Time Limits: Grandfathering concessions have an end date. For example, Alumni Discounts will be honoured for existing students until 2032, even though they’re removed for new students from 2028.
Why do this?
- It ensures fairness as families made financial decisions based on the previous discount structure.
- It gives time for gradual transition instead of sudden financial impact.
