Last week our Prep to Year 9 parents joined us for an ‘Engaging Students in the Writing Process Workshop’. During this workshop we shared how the College is using the Seven Steps to Writing Success resource to encourage a love of writing. We use this resource to identify quality writing, analyse text and generate creative ideas for our own stories. The group were challenged with a number of writing tasks during the workshop, including a Five-Minute Fast Start.
I couldn’t help but laugh as he disappeared into the gaping maw of the old fig tree.
‘Couldn’t happen to a more deserving fellow,’ said Hamish.
‘Could have been a little more drawn out though,’ I responded.
I’ve never been so interested in horticulture.
This resource provides us with a common language to talk about our writing and the writing of others. By sharing this with our parent group, we can continue this conversation in the home environment and strengthen our students learning.
We received some wonderful feedback using our newly acquired writing skills. Melita Payne expressed that the Workshop contained, ‘Victorious vocabulary, fabulous feedback, luscious lollies, the sizzle of sensational starts, educated and empowered, and I wonder what I will write next?’
We look forward to more opportunities to share the writing successes of our students and parents.
