We are pleased to announce that Ormiston College has been chosen as the Australian school to receive the prestigious 2025 Locate Legacy Project. This global honour, led by the Federation of International Surveyors (FIG) Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, first launched in Ghana in 2024, stands as a lasting testament to the Locate25 / FIG Working Week event held in Australia during April 2025.

This recognition celebrates our strong partnership with She Maps whose mission is to build teacher capabilities, drive diversity and increase student engagement in STEM and Humanities, our role as an active member school of Geospatial in Schools Program (GISP), and the incredible work of our Humanities Department in embedding diversity, inclusion, and geospatial technology into our curriculum.

At a special ceremony held during Locate25 in Brisbane, our Senior Geography and Geospatial teacher, Mrs Roz Minnikin, accepted a legacy item on behalf of Ormiston College. The framed display features side-by-side imagery of Brisbane’s CBD in 1969 and 2024, showcasing the power of geospatial science to understand change, plan sustainably, and shape a better future.

Mrs Minnikin said, "It was an incredible privilege to accept this on behalf of our school and the broader Southeast Queensland education community. These legacy items recognise our work to meaningfully integrate geospatial technologies into Geography. It also acknowledges the commitment of the Humanities Department to make Geography a dynamic, real-world pathway for students, and would not have been achievable without the support of our Head of Humanities, and geospatial ally, Mr Ian Burgess".

The commemorative plaque and legacy images now stand as a powerful reminder of how geography education, geospatial skills, and the Sustainable Development Goals go hand in hand, and of Ormiston College's role in leading that charge.
