Last week, our Year 10 Geographers were intrigued by the automation of the Scenic Rim robotic dairy farm, the home of 4Real Milk, and the vertical integration in action which included milking, pasteurising and bottling their milk on site.

In contrast, Tommerups Dairy Farm applied a more natural style of farming which meant diversity abounded (heritage pigs, free range chickens, sheep, and dairy cows) and niche products were the focus of the business with its high quality pork products, and products from the on-site creamery including some of the best ice cream we’ve tasted, yoghurt (pot set and regular), and crème fraiche.

We loved meeting these third and sixth generation farmers and we appreciate the many decisions which they have to make in order to make a living and put food on our plates and milk in our glasses.
