Our annual Careers Expo took place in June, a key event designed to introduce our Senior students to various career options and connect their classroom learning to the real world. Organised by our Student Support Services team, the expo seeks to assist students as they face the often-daunting task of choosing a career path and preparing themselves for a rapidly changing job market.

The recent release of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Teenage Career Readiness Dashboard reveals a strong disconnect between students’ aspirations and actual patterns of employer demand. Events like our Careers Expo help to bridge this gap by raising awareness of the current labour market, strengthening social networks, and broadening the range of career paths considered.

The expo brought together a wealth of experience, thanks to the participation of industry representatives, including 22 Ormiston College alumni. The volunteers, representing over 20 specialised fields from architects to business owners and engineers, shared firsthand experiences and answered many student questions. In addition, seven tertiary education providers were on site, providing the students with details of various education and training options.

The feedback from the students has been positive and many have found the event to be useful and practical, assisting them to make informed decisions about their future studies and careers.

This exposure to diverse careers and an understanding of educational and training choices, ensures our students are well-prepared as they think about their future. We extend our thanks to all the industry representatives and tertiary providers who provided our students in Years 10 to 12 with valuable insights and resources.
