We officially reopened our newly rebuilt Centre for Learning and Innovation, marking an important milestone after an arson attack in July 2024 caused significant damage and disruption to the school community.

The reopening was formally marked by the Honourable John-Paul Langbroek MP, Minister for Education and the Arts, who attended a special ceremony at the school on Friday 30 January, joined by special guests, students and staff.

The rebuilding project took approximately 18 months to complete and several adjustments, such as an interim canteen and library and relocation of classes, were required to ensure that students could continue their daily activities with minimal disruption. During the reconstruction, the College worked closely with contractors, transforming adversity into opportunity, to make meaningful adjustments within the building.

Key improvements include:

  • Specialist technology classrooms which allow the extension of the subject offering to include Engineering
  • Literacy Lab to focus on core essential skills
  • Additional Collab Spaces to encourage collaborative teamwork as well as self-regulated individual study
  • Use of environmentally responsible and recycled materials in various elements such as furniture and acoustic boards

“The Centre for Learning and Innovation was a place of connection — a space where students learned, collaborated, and grew. It forms the heart of our campus, and we are deeply grateful to have access to it once again,” said Mr Michael Hornby, Headmaster of Ormiston College.

“We appreciate the generous support offered by local schools and businesses at the time of the fire and the collective contributions of all the contractors involved in the rebuild.”

The Centre for Learning and Innovation provides a collation of library, academic, social, archival and technological services that brings expertise together to engage students, teachers and the school community.
