Our Year 11 Geographers embarked on a fieldwork excursion to West End to explore one of Brisbane’s most dynamic and diverse suburbs where old worker's cottages and industrial relics meet high-rise living, boutique retail, and bold urban change.

In a suburb shaped by gentrification and renewal, students investigated change, conflict and crime using advanced geospatial tools:

  • Survey123 for public perception questionnaires
  • Field Maps for physical environment audits

Additionally, students had the unique opportunity to interview Queensland’s only QPS Community Liaison Officer, gaining an insider’s view of West End’s changing identity.

This hands-on fieldwork exercise was designed not only for data collection but also to equip students with essential skills in data analysis, critical thinking, and spatial technology. These are the capabilities that power success in Year 12 and beyond. As cities continue to evolve, so do our students as they step up to understand it.
