We were blown away by the creativity, detail, and effort our Year 8 students poured into their entries for the inaugural She Maps My Map, My World Competition. The standard was extraordinary, a testament to the passion and hard work of our Humanities staff, who inspire our students every day.

The competition invited students to step into the shoes of geographers, storytellers, and spatial thinkers by creating a map of a place important to them. Whether it was an imaginary dream world, a favourite holiday spot, or even a local landmark, the possibilities were endless and our students embraced the challenge wholeheartedly.

After reviewing submissions from schools across Australia, the judging panel awarded First Prize to three standout classes, all from Ormiston College! These talented young cartographers celebrated their achievement with a well-earned pizza party. Our runner-up classes also enjoyed a cool treat in recognition of their significant effort and creativity.

The imaginative maps featured places such as Antarctica, Pyrrhia, Sunny Brooke Stables, Hogwarts, the Amazon Rainforest (2018 and 2020), Diversity in Japan, Tasty Travels Around Brisbane and Memories.

More than just a creative challenge, the My Map, My World Competition encourages students to think spatially, tell compelling stories, and connect with their surroundings through a new lens. It links classroom concepts across Geography, Science, Technology, Maths, and the Arts, building important 21st-century skills while sparking curiosity and creativity.

Congratulations to our Year 8 students for their outstanding work.
