Ormiston College was pleased to welcome two talented authors to campus during Term 3, offering students a unique opportunity to learn more about the art of storytelling.

On Thursday 24 July, bestselling author Tristan Bancks captivated students from Years 4 to 8 with an engaging presentation about his writing journey. Known for his gripping storytelling and award-winning novels, Tristan shared behind-the-scenes insights into his writing process and the gripping stories behind his books including Scar Town, the 2024 Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year for Younger Readers.

On Tuesday 29 July, our Prep to Year 3 students were treated to illustrator workshops with Brent Wilson, a Brisbane-based author and illustrator. Brent, co-author and illustrator of the new graphic novel series Frog, Log and Dave, introduced students to the world of visual storytelling. Through interactive activities, students learned how authors and illustrators collaborate to bring stories to life and even created their own cartoon characters.

We are incredibly grateful to Tristan and Brent for sharing their passion for storytelling with our students. Their visits have ignited a spark of creativity among our young learners, and we look forward to seeing the imaginative stories that will emerge from these inspiring experiences.
