The Secondary School gathered in the Somerset Sports Centre on Friday 6 February for the inaugural TAS 1st Team Jersey Presentation Ceremony.
The vibrant, celebratory atmosphere of the ceremony highlighted the achievement of students selected for 1st Teams in Trimester 1 sports which included Girls Basketball, Boys Cricket, Girls Football, Girls Tennis and Boys Volleyball. 1st Team members were introduced and warmly applauded as they made their way to the stage to receive their 1st Team playing uniform.
During the ceremony, Mr Pincott interviewed the team captains and invited them to share their reflections and advice. Cricket captain Brandon encouraged fellow Redbacks to enjoy playing alongside friends, give their best regardless of the score and focus on building a positive team culture. Girls Tennis captain Zara, now entering her fifth year as a 1st Team member, spoke about making the most of her final season and cherishing the friendships formed through sport. College Captain and Volleyball Captain John highlighted the importance of respecting the game and showing courage when representing the Redbacks.
Another memorable moment was the interview with Coach Reese, the College’s new Head of Sports Performance and Coaching. He shared insights into his background, the factors that influence athletic performance and the significant role sport plays in school life. Using Michael Jordan as an example, he reminded students that team selection does not determine their potential but should rather motivate them to train with commitment and purpose. He also delighted the audience with an impressive demonstration of his football throwing skills.
To conclude the ceremony, the 1st Team students proudly led the entire school in the School Song before joining their parents, coaches and team managers in the Hall of Fame for a celebratory lunch.
The ceremony was warmly received by students and families, offering an inclusive and spirited celebration of sporting excellence and a wonderful kick off to the Trimester 1 sporting season.
