Students from Ormiston College participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime during May, where a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, and many other places around the country. Now in its 25th year, an impressive 2,204,658 participants at 16,632 locations took part in this annual literary event, held by the Australian Library and Information Association, to promote the value of reading and literacy.

This year’s selected picture book, The Truck Cat, was written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell. It is a touching tale of friendship, identity, and finding a home, following a travelling cat, Tinka, and his human.

Our Prep to Year 3 students were treated to a range of special guest readers during their Library Lessons who shared this heartwarming story. ELC students were especially delighted to have a reading from Headmaster Mr Michael Hornby. Afterwards students participated in a variety of The Truck Cat themed activities with our older Junior School students using AI to redesign the front cover.

Reading events like this are a wonderful way to generate excitement around books and to encourage a lifelong passion for reading in our young learners.
