Ormiston College’s co-curricular music program has celebrated outstanding success at the 2026 Queensland Youth Music Awards, with students delivering a series of exceptional performances during May. Hosted across multiple schools, the event provided our students with the opportunity to perform in a competitive setting and observe the skill of high calibre ensembles from across South-East Queensland.
Recognised as one of the state’s longest-running school music competitions, the Queensland Youth Music Awards brings together talented students participating in orchestras, bands and choirs. This year, Ormiston College was proudly represented by nine ensembles, each demonstrating dedication, skill and passion for music.
Ormiston College ensembles achieved impressive results:
Gold Awards
- Scherzo Strings, awarded Second Place
- Symphony Strings
- Voices
- Singers
- Chorale – Maroon, awarded Third Place
- Big Band
Silver Awards

- Chorale – Blue
- Stage Band
These results reflect not only musical excellence but also the many hours of rehearsal and preparation by students. Participation in events such as the Queensland Youth Music Awards fosters both personal and ensemble growth, encouraging students to continually raise their standard of performance and grow as performers and musicians.
Congratulations to all student performers, Ensemble Directors, accompanists and Music Tuition Specialists on the professionalism, musicianship, and enthusiasm displayed throughout the event.
