The Ormiston College eSports teams had fantastic couple of days representing the College at the XPEsports 2023 EKKA HSL Cup Finals Tournament.

The two Rocket League teams and the League of Legends team faced some tough competition in the five preliminary rounds in the weeks leading up to the event with all three teams easily making finals which were held live on stage at the XPEsports Arena at the EKKA.

On Sunday 13 August the Rocket League teams OC Red and OC Blue dominated the group stage of the finals, winning all three of three matches progressing into the semi-finals.

OC Red won their semi-final match against The Lakes College, and although OCBlue took an early lead they were eliminated by the other Grand Finalist, Kawana Waters State High School. OC Red's nerves seemed to get the better of them and they finished a very commendable second place, with the OC Blue team finishing third.

OC Red include the long standing members of Joel Wright (Year 12 - Captain), Daniel Donnelly (Year 12) and Nicholas Lecei (Year 12). The Seconds team, OC Blue included Matthew Bull (Year 7 - Captain), Max Heaphy (Year 8), Daniel Brown (Year 8) and Alexandre Guillaumond (Year 8).

On Sunday 20 August our League of Legends team went in as the favourite to win the competition and the pressure perhaps got to them as they went down in the semi-finals, giving John Paul College the opportunity to face off against the eventual winners Wavell Heights State High School. The OC team finished in third place which is still a great achievement for the team.

Our League of Legends team was led by captain Thomas Hamilton (Year 11), Peyton Bird (Year 11), Jessica Howard (Year 10), Steven Tzaneros (Year 10), DJ Symons (Year 10) and Edward Luther (Year 10).

All teams received some lovely prizes (including gift vouchers, gaming mice, bags, hats and more) which were very generously provided by XPEsports for their podium finishes.

The teams all enjoyed the experience of what it is like to play like the professionals do at a live on-stage event and are all looking forward to compete in the TAS Term 4 eSports competition which will hopefully see them at the TAS Finals live on-stage event on Saturday 11 November.
