It was a year for the record books as Ormiston College students and staff came together for the third annual The Clip fundraising event.
Held on Wednesday 28 May, the 2025 event saw the highest number of Year 12 student participants and the largest amount of funds raised since the initiative began. Over $20,000 was raised for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), well above the 40 boys’ initial goal of $15,000.
For the first time, six courageous teachers joined the students in having their hair clipped to raise funds and awareness for a disease that affects over 26,000 men in Australia each year.
Organised by the Service Leadership Committee, The Clip was opened by 2025 Service Leadership Prefect Micah, who thanked the community for supporting and donating to the cause.
Headmaster Mr Michael Hornby also addressed the audience, acknowledging the talented teams from C'ba Hair and The Hair Chapel for donating their time to the event and clipping the hair.
Wendy Turk from Sustainable Salons, an organisation which aids in diverting up to 95% of salon materials from landfill by re-purposing it, explained how the hair clippings from the event would be recycled into products like bricks, solar panels, and hair booms which soak up oil in coastline spills.
PCFA representative, Jason Castle, accepted a cheque on behalf of the organisation and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all involved remarking how the contributions would help the PCFA to continue their important work investing in research, raising vital awareness and providing essential support services to those impacted by the disease.
Thank you to all students, staff, and families who contributed to this fundraising event; your support will make a meaningful difference.
