Ormiston College Early Learning Centre (ELC) is proud to announce it has achieved an overall ‘Exceeding’ rating in its recent National Quality Standard (NQS) Assessment for Early Childhood Education and Care.
In this assessment cycle, the Centre received ‘Exceeding’ ratings in the two Quality Areas assessed, bringing the ELC to a total of seven Exceeding ratings across all Quality Areas. This achievement positions the ELC as a benchmark for early childhood education and care in the Redlands under the updated assessment and rating process.
The Assessment and Rating process is conducted by authorised officers from the state regulatory authority. It evaluates early childhood services against the seven key areas of the National Quality Standard:
- Quality Area 1 – Educational Program and Practice
- Quality Area 2 – Children’s Health and Safety
- Quality Area 3 – Physical Environment
- Quality Area 4 – Staffing Arrangements
- Quality Area 5 – Relationships with Children
- Quality Area 6 – Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities
- Quality Area 7 – Governance and Leadership
To be rated ‘Exceeding’, a service must demonstrate practice that goes beyond the requirements of the NQS in at least four of the seven Quality Areas, with at least two of these coming from Quality Area 1 (Educational Program and Practice), Quality Area 5 (Relationships with Children), or Quality Area 7 (Governance and Leadership). Ormiston College ELC surpassed this benchmark by achieving ‘Exceeding’ across all seven Quality Areas, reflecting a culture of excellence that is consistently demonstrated every day.
The Centre’s ‘Exceeding’ achievement in Quality Area 2 was underpinned by a sustained focus on children’s wellbeing and safety. The Centre refined wellbeing practices, strengthened supervision, and embedded child‑inclusive risk assessments into daily routines. These actions have contributed to calmer, more confident children, safer environments, and a measurable reduction in incidents.
The Centre’s ‘Exceeding’ achievement in Quality Area 3 reflects the design and use of its new environment and the intentional application of the Curiosity Approach. Learning spaces are nature‑connected and purposefully arranged to invite deep engagement. Curiosity is embraced as a sustained learning disposition, with children encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, test ideas, and experience the joy of discovery. This leads to stronger engagement, deeper concentration, and richer language development.
Andrea Potter, Director of the Ormiston College Early Learning Centre, proudly acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of the educators at the ELC.
“Their intentional practice, collaborative spirit, and deep understanding of children’s learning and wellbeing create a warm, safe, and inspiring place for children to learn and grow.”
“Achieving ‘Exceeding’ in all seven Quality Areas is an incredible reflection of the Centre and its community. The result reflects not only high‑quality practice but also a culture of commitment, collaboration, and continuous improvement.”
She added, “The Centre remains dedicated to providing exceptional early childhood education and care, ensuring every child is supported to thrive.”
