Debut Performance for Beginner Band

A very enthusiastic group of Year 5 musicians have worked hard throughout Semester 1 mastering their instruments whilst experiencing the fun of making music in a full band context.

Ormiston College choir members perform in State Honours Ensemble Program, Griffith University

Ormiston College Junior School choir students from Year 4 and Year 5 represented the College at this year’s Primary SHEP (State Honours Ensemble Program). They joined ensembles of over 100 students, singing songs from around the world, songs from across time, and in particular, songs by renowned Australian composers.

Four of our talented music students successfully auditioned in January for the Queensland Youth Orchestras. QYO is a world class youth orchestra organisation based in Brisbane.

Mary Poppins Launches in Style!

Sunday 10 February saw the launch of our 2019 Ormiston College Musical – the iconic Mary Poppins. Joining the cast for the first hour of rehearsals, were our dedicated parents, all keen to hear how the creative vision for the show will be realised. Live Theatre Masterclass with Ellen Reed

​On Monday 18 February, the Drama Department hosted another Live Theatre Masterclass for interested secondary school students. After the success of the Masterclass with Mat Verevis, in 2018, I’m pleased to say a group of dedicated Performing Arts students presented either a polished monologue or song in order to receive feedback on their work.

The inaugural OC Night of the Proms held last Friday evening was an outstanding success with hundreds of families attending and filling up the Somerset Centre court area.

​On 8 September the Ormiston College OCATVE ensemble consisting of Alena Olds, Chiara Gay, Emily Pearson, Molly Snaylam, Kyle Bryant, Matthew Garnett, Thomas Whyte and Fraser Todd, made their way down to Melbourne in order to compete in the AUSACA 2017 Australian A Cappella Awards. This festival saw the best school a cappella groups from around the country battle it out to be crowned the AUSACA Australian A Cappella Champions.

OC hosts GuitarFest

The festival brought together guitarists from the local community, as well as our own students, where they were mentored and inspired by two outstanding professionals.

Amazing honour for OCTAVE

OCTAVE – a special Vocal Project Group consisting primarily of Year 11 and Year 12 Classroom Music students recently enjoyed a whirlwind 24-hour adventure in Melbourne at the National Semi-finals and Finals of the Australian A Cappella Awards - AUSACA.

Yardbirds at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music

Yardbirds, Ormiston College’s premium saxophone ensemble, recently participated in the Open Age Group section of the annual Clarinet and Saxophone Society competition which was held at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music – Opera Space.

Ormiston College Choir at Service for Vietnam Veterans

​On 18 August, a small group of students from the Ormiston College Chamber Singers Choir attended the Vietnam Veterans Service at the Hemmant Cemetery. The official ceremony was compered by Allen Callaghan, the National Media Officer for the National Servicemen’s Association of Australia (NSAA), which included an address by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Graham Quirk.

A Weekend of Music for Ormiston College Choral Program Students

Over the weekend from Friday 22 July through to Sunday 24 July, members of the Secondary School Choral Program journeyed to Brookfield for an intensive weekend of choral workshops.

SAY NO TO BULLYING Middle School Cup Grand Final

The ‘Say no to bullying’ Middle School Cup is an anticipated event on the College calendar. At this year’s Grand Final, the Middle School joined as one to witness a play off between ‘Ivory Coast’ and ‘Cook Islands’.

Ormiston College Music Tour to Europe

On Friday 17 June, a group of 21 music students from Years 8 to 12 embarked on a trip of a lifetime as participants of the Ormiston College 2016 Music Tour to Europe. The itinerary comprised what is ostensibly a pilgrimage to the cradle of Western Civilization’s musical heritage – Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
