Ormiston College has bid a warm farewell to long-serving Head of Junior School and Deputy Head of College, Mrs Lee Catterall, who retired at the end of Semester 1 after 16 years of dedicated service to the school community.
Mrs Catterall joined Ormiston College as the Head of Junior School in October 2010 and has made a significant and lasting contribution throughout her tenure. During her time at the College, she has introduced a number of initiatives that are now firmly embedded in the College culture.
Among them is the development of the Hearts and Hands Service Program, which has provided students with meaningful opportunities to give back to the community. She also introduced new student morning teas, creating a welcoming experience for families as they joined the College, established the buddy system, fostering strong connections between older and younger students and introduced a Junior School Student Leadership structure that complements the Secondary School. Under her leadership, the Art, Drama, Sport and Activities programs within the Junior School have also flourished.
Reflecting on her time at Ormiston College, Mrs Catterall shared her gratitude for the community she has been part of for over a decade. “It has been an extraordinary privilege to walk alongside you and your children over the years to witness their growth, celebrate their achievements, support them through challenges, and share in the many occasions that make our community so special,” she said. “These moments, both big and small, are what I will carry with me always.”
A special farewell assembly was held in the Somerset Sports Centre to celebrate Mrs Catterall’s service. The event brought together students, staff, families and invited guests, and showcased the respect and appreciation held for her across the College. Highlights included a delightful performance by Kinders, the presentation of a special merit certificate and a pink cape, as well as heartfelt speeches from students and colleagues. The celebration concluded with a lively rendition of songs from Grease, a musical close to Mrs Catterall’s heart.
The College extends its sincere thanks to Mrs Catterall for her dedication and leadership, and wishes her a happy and fulfilling retirement, enjoying quality time with her family and grandchildren.
Looking ahead, Ormiston College is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Jaime Thistleton as the new Head of Junior School, commencing in Term 3 2026. With more than 20 years of experience across Australian and British international school settings, Mrs Thistleton’s experience and commitment to student success will support the continued growth and development of the Junior School, as it enters an exciting new chapter.
