Ormiston College 2018 Australian Education Awards Best Use Of Technology

Ormiston College was proud to be recognised as the National Winner of the 2018 Australian Education Award for Best Use of Technology at a recent awards ceremony in Sydney.

This award is testament to the College’s ongoing commitment to innovation and to preparing students for the 21st century and beyond. The College’s teaching and learning programs strive to develop learners who think flexibly, work independently and collaboratively, take risks, solve real-world problems and demonstrate higher-order thinking skills.

Earlier this year, the College received the news that a large panel of education experts had selected Ormiston College as a finalist, from hundreds of applications, for the following categories of the 2018 Australian Education Awards: Primary School of the Year; Secondary School of the Year; Best School Strategic Plan; Best Use of Technology and Best Professional Learning Program. Headmaster, Brett Webster commented, “This in itself is an outstanding achievement and testament to the capacity and dedication of our whole team, as well as the strategic focus of the College and the way we commit to continual improvement for the good of our students.”

The 2018 Australian Education Awards also involved some individual honours with the College’s Head of Junior School, Travis Goulter, winning the 2018 Department Head of the Year award. Headmaster, Brett Webster was a finalist for the Principal of the Year award; Deputy Head of Junior School, Erin Ware was a finalist in the Department of the Year award and E-Learning Teacher Leader, Annette McArthur was a finalist for the Teacher of the Year award.

The 2018 Australian Education Award for Best Use of Technology is one of many acknowledgements of the College’s dedication to providing an education that is relevant to its students and their needs. This dedication, and the results that go with it, have led to Ormiston College being widely identified, nationally and internationally, as a leading school that can serve as an effective model for other schools. As well as being recipient of The Educator Innovative Schools Award in 2015, 2016 and 2017, the College is one of only nine fully-fledged Microsoft Worldwide Showcase Schools in Australia.

The College continues to look for ways of ensuring that its young people can thrive and achieve in today’s increasingly complex and fast-paced world.
