With the unexpected pivot to Learning from Home in Term 2, Ormiston College Visual Arts and Media Arts staff quickly altered assessments to make them animation based. As a result, the 2020 Animation Festival came to fruition: showcasing animations by the Middle School Visual and Media Artists.
Using the spectacular CLI Plaza big screen, the 2020 Animation Festival started with a drum roll. Armed with suitable refreshments (chips, popcorn, lollies and drinks) an enthusiastic and excited audience enjoyed some intriguing animations developed from the imaginations of our very talented students. Plasticine, Lego, remote controlled cars and various other inanimate objects came to life, with music, sounds effects and motion.
Cultural Captains, Sophie Bell and Bianca de Abreu cheerfully fulfilled the challenge of judging the various categories. The 2020 Animation Festival winners are:
Year 7: First – Bailey Hambrecht; Second – Cameron Hanson; Highly commended – Lacey Chapman and Finn Gilmour
Year 8: First – Claudia O’Connor; Second – Dakota Nayef;
Year 9: First – Alia Robinson; Second – Monet Logan
2020 Animator of the Year: Imogen Hatherill
Julianne de Lange, Sam Wong, Matthew Anderson and Wendy Brown
