Further recognition for the Ormiston College Centre for Learning and Innovation

Ormiston College was delighted to hear they had been named, yet again, for their most recent architectural addition, the Centre for Learning and Innovation. This prestigious acknowledgement was announced by the national association, Learning Environments Australasia (LEA), during their 13th Annual Awards event in the middle of June.

This was indeed an honour for the College and their partnership with BSPN Architecture. LEA is a recognised peak body promoting excellence in educational design, advocating innovative learning environments within Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. It is part of a global network of 5,000 professionals, architects, interior designers and planners, educators, policy makers, project managers, administrators and suppliers.

The citation received from LEA particularly noted “The design integrates a wide set of services and sub spaces, efficiently organized in a diverse socio-spatial environments zoning. Among other ones: large group areas, smaller break out spaces, makerspace, drone flying area, recording studio, mixed reality space that not only carry innovation, but practically support different typologies of teaching and learning activities.”

The final selection resulted from numerous high-profile structures throughout Australasia, including several university projects.

It was in April 2019, that the Ormiston College Centre for Learning and Innovation was officially opened by the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland. Later in that year, the College received two major awards, the 2019 Australian Institute of Architects, State Award, for Educational Architecture (via BSPN Architecture) and the Master Builders Association, Brisbane Region, Education and Facilities Award (via Rohrig Constructions). Then again, in November, it went on to receive the EduTECH Asia Award when the Centre for Learning and Innovation was recognised and awarded a Gold for Best Learning Space.

Just recently, the Australian Education Awards nominated Ormiston College for eight different categories, one of which is also for the Centre for Learning and Innovation, namely the Innovation in Learning Environment Design. Should this selection pass from nominated finalist to that of winner, it will be the fifth award for this exciting structure that has become the epicentre of the College.
